On May 23, 2025, while we, as the Civil Disaster Response Team Association (Sivil Afet Timi Derneği), were conducting the third session of our regional training at the Erenköy-Karpaz Municipality, we received news of a wildfire breaking out in the Avtepe-Kuruova area. Our team quickly reached the fire zone and immediately began firefighting efforts. Once the fire was brought under control, we carried out cooling operations to prevent it from reigniting.
Volunteers play an extremely important role in the fight against forest fires. As seen yesterday in the Avtepe-Kuruova fire, volunteers are able to reach areas that firefighting vehicles cannot access and extinguish flames using proper intervention techniques. Afterwards, they participate in the crucial cooling operations that are key to fully extinguishing the fire.
As the Civil Disaster Response Team Association, we were delivering training at the Erenköy-Karpaz Municipality on two key topics: The Importance of Volunteering in Forest Fires Intervention Techniques in Forest Fires At the very moment we were conducting this training, the fire began. Thanks to early, effective, and well-coordinated intervention, the fire was quickly brought under control.
